And we're off

I always find the hardest part about writing anything is figuring out how it ought to begin. So, to save time, I'm going to make a conscious effort not to think and instead just write whatever comes to mind as it occurs.

Welcome to my blog! What's it about, you might ask? That's a good question - let me buy myself some time to figure out the answer by going off on a little tangent.

2019 Sucked

Boy did it ever suck a big fat one. I could list all the reasons it sucked, but if you too lived through 2019, I'm sure you could probably guess a few of them without any help from me. The point is, it was a pretty awful year for us collectively as human beings, and it was an especially awful year for me on a much more personal level. This, however, is not to be a forum for the airing of grievances or other such mopey nonsense - no! This is going to be... a log! A progress log... a... plog?

Plogging Rogress

Motivation is a tricky beast. So tricky that there is at least one entire profession devoted to helping people reach down within themselves and haul forth that dim animating spark that inspires us to achieve. I, despite appearances to the contrary, am among the laziest people I know, which has made it very difficult to properly enjoy many of my favourite pastimes - in particular...

The Grand Old Hobby

Or rather hobbies. That's what this blog is going to be about! It's going to be a log of my activities related to any of my various hobbies, and more than anything, it will be the impetus to drive myself to spend my time well. And as for the hobbies themselves? Nerd shit. Miniature wargaming, board games, tabletop roleplaying games, painting, modeling, gamemastering, dungeon design, creative writing, video games - whatever happens to strike my fancy. A better organized product would have put this earlier, but if you've read this far you must already have some idea since you have probably been following the timeline backwards from some other more useful and interesting post. Maybe by now I've even got a nice background and banner that gets the point across through an attractive visual medium!

Why would I want to read about that?

Eeeeeeh honestly you probably don't. I'm really not bringing anything new to the table, and compared to the many excellent bloggers out there across the whole spectrum of my interests, this will surely seem amateurish and uninspired. But that's not the point, you see, after all - this is about me.

What's up with the name?

Don't worry about the name. The name's fine.

Maybe I'll write about the name later on. Just forget about the name.

2020 Resolutions

Never was a fan of these, but we'll try one this time: Towards the tail end of 2019 I got into Warhammer Age of Sigmar, which provided me a way to scratch my miniatures wargaming itch without having to engage with the gak that has become of one of my longtime favourite properties, Warhammer 40,000. Despite it's resurgent popularity, I just can't enjoy 8th edition, and now that I've started playing Sigmar I can see the signs that many of the game's flaws seem rooted in a poor adaptation of another product's design philosophies. And now that I've hacked off most of the tabletop gaming community - let's dive right in!

NO ZERO DAYS! Every day I will do something towards my hobby goals of completing my Age of Sigmar armies to a tabletop standard, no matter how small. Even if it's just filing off a few mold lines, priming some minis or dotting some eyeballs, no zero-progress days will be permitted! We're nine days into 2020 and while I am still technically in the clear, let's see how long I can keep it going.

Moving right along

In other exciting news, I am about to gamemaster a new roleplaying campaign in an inspired system called Dungeon Crawl Classics, with the first session this weekend. I think I'll throw together a review of this lovely rules set in a subsequent post, probably after I've run a few sessions. Maybe even a play report? We shall have to see! I'm burning time and I haven't worked on my Orruks yet today.

Soup out.
